1. Speak of Me of as I Am by Sonia Belasco

This YA novel follows the story of Melanie and Damon, two teenagers who have experienced a loss in their lives, and how they find each other and discover that it is possible to continue living life without completely letting go of their grief. I really enjoyed reading this book, in fact, this was the first book I had read after my dad passed away. It is a beautiful and poignant book that I will always admire.

Well, I am sure you know this book! I absolutely loved it. Undoubtedly, it is a meaningful and astounding love story which addresses the topic of death well.

3. Stressed, Unstressed: Classic Poems to Ease the Mind

This book is simply beautiful. Although it is not solely based on death and loss, it has certainly helped me. This book is split into chapters such as: 'stopping', 'meditating', 'feeling alone' and 'grieving'. It contains a collection of poetry from writers such as Shakespeare, Thomas Hardy, William Wordsworth and William Blake. It is the perfect read for those times when you are feeling down- it will be sure to bring you solace and comfort.

4. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

If I were to sum up this book in three adjectives...
Poignant, captivating, gripping!
This novel follows the story of Connor, a young boy, who struggles to cope with the consequences of his mother's illness. It is truly a great read.

5. When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi

I was absolutely touched by this book. It is like a rollercoaster- there will be some laughs and definitely tears. Kalanithi writes beautifully, it almost seems like you are there with him; experiencing his heartache, struggles and grief. It is a brilliant book.

6. This Star Won't Go Out by Esther Earl

This book is extremely emotional and touching, and gives you an insight into the life of a dying teenager and helps you to experience and see loss and death from a different viewpoint. I definitely recommend this book.
